DISCONNECTION BETWEEN FUEL PUMP ROLLER AND REVERSING CYLINDER DUE TO BROKEN PIN
Proper working of the engine depends on the proper working of the various components which must work in harmony with each other.
While overhauling reversing cylinders, observed one of the reversing cylinder shaft is moving freely, where we have been invited to carry out complete pneumatic manoeuvring system overhaul during vessel's drydock period.
Once we have removed the fuel pump and pump base, we found out the disconnection between fuel pump roller and reversing cylinder due to broken pin.
This experience taught us that, during reversing cylinder health check,camshaft covers must be removed and actual position change of the roller to be confirmed, because since reversing cylinder actually changing position, magnet switches cannot detect abnormality and cannot activate the cam abnormal alarm.
What we have learned also is, paying attention to small things can prevent big problems.
