FUEL CAM ABNORMAL

This video is perfect example which can be used as study material at marine engineering students. We are lucky to catch this video which belongs to very rare incident and almost impossible to simulate.

Once ship crew changed over to MGO before arrival to port, observed fuel cam abnormal alarm due to one cylinder’s roller moving to astern during ahead running and shared this video with us. We suspect fuel pump started to scuffing and that force pushing the roller to astern position and advise them immediately stop the engine and lift the fuel pump until arrival to port prevent any further damage.

When we attend to vessel at port for troubleshooting, found scuffing on fuel pump plunger and barrel, condition of the barrel can be seen upper left side of the video.

This is good explanation how reversing take place due to force on the roller mechanism and for roller damages which is sometimes also extend to fuel cam damages.

This is also very good explanation why reversing mechanism to be maintained in good order.
